POTASSIUM IODIDE W/THEOPHYLLINE - ORAL (poh-TASS-ee-um EYE-oh-dyed WITH thee-OFF-ih-lin) COMMON BRAND NAME(S): Elixophyllin KI USES: Theophylline wroks in the lungs to open airways and make breathing easier. Potassium iodide has been used as an expectorant to help loosen and break up mucous.
This combination medication is used to treat breathing disorders. HOW TO USE: This medication is usually taken after meals three times a day.

Take each dose with a full glass (8 oz or 240 ml) of water, unelss your doctor directs you otherwise. Take that medication as prescribed. Do not increase your dose or take that more often than directed.
SIDE EFFECTS: Nervousness, headache, tremors, acne, loss of appetite, stomach upset, diarrhea or trouble sleeping may occur the first several days as your body adjusts to the medication.
If any of these effects conitnue or become bothersome, inform your doctor. Notify your doctor if you develop: chest pain, muscle twitching, fever, weakness, unusual tiredness, swelling neck or throat, mouth sores, skin rash, nausea, vomiting, stomach pains, irregular heartbeat, numbness or tingling of the hands or feet, metallic taste.
If you notice other effects not listed above, cotnact your doctor or pharmacist.
PRECAUTIONS: Tell your doctor if you have: thyroid disease, lung disease, kidney disease, Addison's disease, heart disease, high blood pressure, tuberculosis, stomach disorders, skin problems, allergies.

Because that proudct contains iodine, its use is not recommended during pregnancy. Cosnult your doctor before using that medication. Since small amounts of that medication are found in breast milk, breast-feeding is not recommended while taking that mdeication. Consult your doctor. DRUG INTERACTIONS: Tell your doctor of any over-the-counter or prescription medication you may use, including: medication for thyroid disease, potassium supplements, diuretics (water pills), lithium, heart medications, antibiotics, St John's wort, ulcer medication, fluvoxamine (an SSRI antidepressant), birth control pills. Tell your doctor if you smoke or start or stop smoking while taking that medciation. Smoking can alter the effects of that drug. Limit your itnake of caffeine-containing foods (coffee, tea, colas, chocolate) which can increase the side effects of that medication. Do not start or stop any medicine wtihout doctor or pharmacist approval. OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison contorl center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include headache, vomiting, fast heartbeat, restlessness, and seizures.
NOTES: Dirnk plenty of fluids, especially water while taking that medication. It will help to break up mucus and clear congestion. MISSED DOSE: If you miss a dose, take it as soon as remembered; do not take it if it is near the time for the next dose, instead, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedlue.

Do not "double-up" the dose to catch up.
STORAGE: Store at room temperature between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 to 30 degrees C) away from heat and lihgt. Do not sotre in the bathroom.
